Neighbours to get prison spin-off series

Neighbours’ Stefan Dennis has teased a "prison spin-off series".
The 57-year-old actor’s nasty character Paul Robinson has just been thrown behind bars after he was wrongly found guilty of the colossal Lassiters Hotel explosion, which claimed the lives of two well-loved residents two months ago, in Erinsborough but he’s hinted there’s still plenty in store for his banged-up alter-ego.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, Stefan said: "I think it would be fantastic if Paul Robinson had a spin-off series, it’s been talked about for so long so a prison series would be good.
"Do you get [the prison drama] ‘Wentworth’ in the UK? … ‘Wentworth ‘is the more up-to-date and a more modern version of Australia’s ‘Prisoner’ – it’s far more prettier and the sets don’t wobble. So we could get Paul in a male version of that."
And, although the future of his alter-ego is still hanging in the balance at the moment, Stefan doesn’t think bosses of the soap will axe him because Paul – one of the original characters in the show – is so well loved by viewers.
He explained: "I’ve almost become sort of patriarchal. It would be nice to have some sort of him still in the show. But I think the producers will do whatever they want to do. They could quite easily say, ‘We really love you playing Paul but you gotta leave.’ "
‘Neighbours’ airs weekdays on Channel 5 at 1.45pm and 5.30pm.
