Antony Cotton is to appear on ‘Coronation Street’ for at least another year after signing a new contract earlier this week.
The 40-year-old actor – who is known for playing knicker machinist Sean Tully in the long-running soap – has agreed to feature on the show for the fourteenth year running after bosses asked him to take pen to paper yesterday (23.05.16).
But it wasn’t a total celebratory day as the talented star also shot his final scenes with soon-to-be departing co-star Ryan Thomas, who plays handsome builder Jason Grimshaw.
Taking to his Twitter account once the day wrapped up, he wrote: "Bittersweet day today. I agreed my 14th year on @itvcorrie, but also worked for the last time with my bro, @ryanjamesthomas. Love you Ryno x (sic)"
Ryan – who has portrayed his good-looking alter-ego for over 15 years – announced earlier this year he was bowing out of the soap in order to carve out a career in Hollywood.
He said at the time: "It has been a great privilege to be in ‘Coronation Street’ – the cast and crew are among the best in the business. To be a part of it for so long has been an amazing experience. The decision to leave was extremely difficult."
Meanwhile, Antony isn’t the only member of the cast to have his contract extended as Brooke Vincent, who has spent over half her life portraying Sophie Webster on the show, has also agreed a deal with bosses that will keep on the small screen until at least February 2017.
A source said: "’Corrie’ bosses love Brooke and were worried she might be ready to take a break from the show. But they’re delighted she’s signed on the dotted line again as they have much more in store for her character."
