Journey sue Monster Products for axing $500k concert

Journey are suing Monster Products for breach of contract after they cancelled a planned $500,000 concert.
The ‘Don’t Stop Believin” hitmakers claim they were guaranteed the substantial sum for a performance at the CES in Las Vegas for the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show.
However, their appearance was cancelled and the American rock icons were replaced by a "cheaper band", according to the lawsuit filed last Friday (13.05.16).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Journey are suing for their fee, a pre-judgement interest and legal expenses.
Journey’s legal representative Howard King claims the show was organised in October 2015 and was axed a month later when the organisers came to realise they wouldn’t be able to pay the fee to the group – which is comprised of Neal Schon, Ross Valory, Steve Smith, Jonathan Cain and Arnel Pineda.
Monster Products are believed to have apologised for cancelling their appearance, but are yet to offer any compensation.
At the time the concert was booked, Journey’s former drummer Deen Castronovo had pleaded guilty to several charges relating to acts of domestic violence – including two counts of fourth-degree assault, two counts of menacing and one count of unlawful use of a weapon – against his now-ex-fiancée Deidra.
After striking a plea deal, he was sentenced to four years of supervised probation.
The 51-year-old musician – who joined the band in 1998 – had been fired from Journey in June 2015, moths before his sentencing.
At the time, Deen said: "I want to make it perfectly clear: My name cannot be cleared. What I have done to the band and my fiancée, there is no excuse for it. It is really inexcusable. The only way that my reputation will be brought back is to live this – walk it and work on my recovery like it’s a full-time job.
"I’ve hurt the whole band and management as well and so many other organisations. They have kept in quiet touch, texts here and there, but I think with what has happened, they had to cut ties, and I truly do not blame them. I harbour no resentments. Those guys love me to death. I know that beyond a shadow of a doubt."
