Mary Berry’s US show axed

Mary Berry’s US show has been axed.
The 81-year-old TV star launched ‘The Great Holiday Baking Show’ on ABC in America last year but it lost 700,000 viewers in its first month and show bosses have decided to pull the plug.
A source told The Sun: "Figures were a disaster. It’s a huge blow for Mary as it was always her dream to be big Stateside."
The show, a spin-off of Mary’s BBC hit ‘The Great British Bake Off’, slumped to just three million viewers an episode before ABC decided not to renew it for a second season.
It was reported last year that the show was in trouble, just six weeks after it first aired.
A source said at the time: "This show is sinking in front of our eyes, and that is not what ABC expected to happen. To lose one in six viewers in one week is a disaster.
"Had the audience stuck at the four million mark, that wouldn’t have been so terrible. But the figures have just kept falling.
"Given these results, they aren’t likely to go for a summer series. It’s a shame, as everything Mary touches in the UK turns to gold."
In 2013, Mary’s co-star Paul Hollywood appeared in ‘The American Baking Competition’.
However, that also failed to impress viewers and was axed after seven episodes.
An insider said: "It’s over. It’s been cancelled. We’ve all been waiting for CBS to tell us if they were going to pick us up for a second series and this week the call came in saying it’s not being renewed and we should take alternative employment offers.
"Critics hated it and the ratings were abysmal. None of us are particularly surprised, to be honest."
