Jason Sudeikis has praised Olivia Wilde for coming up with hilarious "gags" for ‘The Angry Birds Movie’.
The 40-year-old actor says his fiancée – who is pregnant with the couple’s second child – surprised him when she suggested a joke that made it into the final cut of the 3D animated comedy in which he plays a bird named Red, opposite Maya Rudolph who stars as Matilda.
Speaking at the world premiere of the movie – helmed by Fergal Reilly – in Los Angeles at the weekend, he said: "She came up with this great gag in the movie where Maya’s character is this free-range chicken. That was all Olivia."
During the making of the movie, the comedic star would tell the jokes that the scriptwriters had come up with on set to his 32-year-old partner – whom he already has son Otis, two, with – and the pair would brainstorm new gags at home.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: "She’s very good at puns, a very strong punner. It was me coming home and she said, ‘How was work today?’ and we talked about some of the jokes and some that I thought she would like, and then she chimed in."
Meanwhile, the ‘Meet The Millers’ star said acting in ‘The Angry Birds Movie’ – which is based on the characters from the globally popular mobile game of the same name – helped him to explain to Otis that his parents were expecting another baby.
He said: "He knows that it’s something in an egg. We just used metaphors in the movie [to explain it to him]. That’s all. We explain everything through the movie. He has [seen it].
"This is the first movie that we’ve sat through the whole time together. He liked it a lot. I mean, he was riveted, which is pretty impressive to me. As I’ve told it to other parents, they were pretty shocked as well. But now he knows all the birds’ names and everything. It’s pretty adorable!"
Sudeikis was joined at the premiere by his co-stars Bill Hader, Josh Gad and Maya Rudolph and guests such as Mel B and Gwen Stefani and her boyfriend Blake Shelton.
