Spencer Matthews took steroids in the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ jungle to "look good in the shower."
The former ‘Made in Chelsea’ star was booted off the ITV reality TV show just days after his arrival last year after he was caught out popping the pills without consent from producers, but he has admitted he didn’t mean any harm by his actions and was using the drugs "out of vanity."
Speaking to BBC’s ‘Newsbeat’, he said: "It was a pill every day and that’s just how I saw it. I was under the impression recreational use of steroids was fine, especially as they seem to be, very worryingly, readily available. I didn’t actually believe I was doing anything wrong at the time."
Despite his daily pill-popping session, the 26-year-old hunk is adamant he wasn’t addicted to the steroids and was devastated when he was given the chop three days in.
He said: "When the reality came in that I was going home on the third day, I was just absolutely devastated. For someone that doesn’t get anxious or depressed, I felt pretty anxious and depressed. It was a bit of a dark time."
At the time, it was claimed Spencer had turned to rehab to help him beat his demons, but he has admitted he actually flew to Tanzania and helped to build a school there.
He explained: "I wanted to selflessly do something for other people and give back because I was in a bit of a muddled place. It was incredible. It was a really warm experience."
