Ant and Dec plan acting return

Ant and Dec are planning a return to acting.

The presenting duo – whose real names are Anthony Mc Partlin and Declan Donnelly – first found fame on ‘Byker Grove’ between 1989 and 1993 and are keen to return to their roots.

Speaking to JON magazine, Ant said: "We started our careers as actors and we would love to do more of that. We’ve done a few pilots over the years, developed some sitcom ideas but eventually we would end up doing a comedy sitcom or comedy drama,

"That’s the next thing we would do. It’s in the pipeline."

Dec added: "We’ve looked at it…We might play versions of ourselves or heightened versions of ourselves"

The pair currently present ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get me Out of Here!’ and ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ and feel "lucky" to still be successful after 26 years.

Ant said: "We’ve been around for so long and working for 26 years now. We’ve been in people’s living rooms for a long time…

"It’s lucky that ‘I’m a Celebrity’ and ‘Takeaway’ have been going on for so long that they trust us.

"Therefore, they know when you watch ‘I’m a Celebrity’ or ‘Takeaway’ it’s going to be a good show because they know we’re a good laugh on telly. It’s the familiarity that has made us last so long."

Dec added: "It’s a bit like a lamp… Everyone has a lamp that they have had for years.

"We can put whatever we want in it every weekend it can be something different…It’s just an excuse for us to mess about on Saturday night for 75 minutes of live TV."
