‘The Brittas Empire’ is returning to TV.
The popular 90s sitcom – which ran for 53 episodes from 1991 to 1997 – is in development to make a comeback in an as-yet unannounced form, a BBC spokesperson has confirmed.
Actor Chris Barrie, who played incompetent leisure centre manager Gordon Brittas, said:"One of the original writers is behind it and, fingers crossed, it happens. The script stage is supposed to be done now."
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, the show could be back for a one-off Christmas special.
And the return of the programme – which attracted 10 million viewers at its peak – has already been welcomed by Chris’ ‘Red Dwarf’ co-star Norman Lovett.
He said: "That show was better than a lot of things today. I know there’s still a lot of support for ‘Brittas Empire’. And that character would be very funny today."
It is not yet known whether any other of the former cast members will return for the show’s comeback.
Chris previously reprised the character in 2014, making a brief appearance in the music video for Little Mix’s Sport Relief single ‘Word Up!’.
